How excited we were, when we found out that the beautiful model and actress, Denise Vasi, would take the time out of her busy schedule to speak with www.BoriquaChicks.com. Denise, who is the new addition to the cast of VH1‘s “Single Ladies,” is busy promoting season 2 of the hit show.
Vasi isn’t new to the acting and modeling world. She is best known to us for her role as Randi Hubbard on ABC’s “All My Children” and has graced the covers of many magazines including Marie Claire & ELLE, so she is definitely on the scene!
Check out our interview below as Denise speaks with us about the special Latina women in her family, her favorite Latin cuisine, and more about her new role on “Single Ladies.”
We read that you are Puerto Rican/Dominican. When you think about your identity, how do you identify?
I’m actually Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Greek. I was raised to identify with and celebrate each culture.
Who are the positive Latina women in your family?
All the women in my family! My mother, my grandmother, and my aunts are all strong and positive in such different ways.
Latin Caribbean Cuisine…what’s one of your favorite dishes?
Rice and beans!!! Arroz con Gandules, Arroz con Habichuelas, Arroz con Frijoles. (It) doesn’t matter, I could eat rice and beans everyday—anyway you make them.
Explain your character on “Single Ladies” and how it has been filming with your costars LisaRaye and Charity Shea?
Raquel Lancaster is the character I play. She was raised amongst Atlanta’s elite. She’s highly educated and went to the best schools to study business. She’s funny, super sweet, and loyal to her friends. She’s also a very sexy woman without throwing it in your face. This season is all about transition and the journey for Raquel. She’s off to pursue her passions.
I have great co-stars and I truly enjoy working with everyone.
Any future projects on the horizon that we should look out for?
After 6 months of an intense work schedule, the only thing in my future I’m focused on is a vacation! Ha! Ha!
We love how Denise was taught to identify with and celebrate all of her cultures! That’s what www.BoriquaChicks.com is all about…embracing who you are!
Check out season 2’s super trailer below…
