A winter day on the second Sunday in December becomes sunny and bright in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Congregational Church at 1613 W. Washington Blvd. in Chicago. This is when the Sanctuary Choir presents their annual presentation of Handel’s Messiah by George Frederick Handel. This free concert, which takes place at 3:30 p.m., will mark the 55th presentation of this event at First Baptist Congregational Church.
This musical rendition portrays the drama of Redemption from the prophecies of Christ’s coming to the glory of his eternal reign. This presentation is a magnificent version of the Messiah that allows you to freely meditate upon its message. The music induces the audience to participate in deep reflection; it rejuvenates your soul for the rest of the holiday season and beyond.
The beautiful architecture of this historical church is a very fitting setting for this concert as the church has been restored to its original beauty and splendor, which is characteristic of the time period that Handel composed this masterpiece.
