Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last 48 hours, you’ve probably heard the tape with NBA Clippers owner Donald Sterling and his racist commentary. What’s crazy about the situation is that his girlfriend (V. Stiviano), who obviously taped the conversation, is Black and Latina; the majority of the team he owns is African-American; and the Clipper’s coach Doc Rivers is African-American. Clearly racism is alive and well! Check out what he allegedly said to her and social media’s take on the situation.
— “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” (3:30)
— “You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.” (5:15)
— “I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.” (7:45)
— “…Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games.” (9:13)
This isn’t his first time being labeled as a racist…according to TMZ he’s being sued by the federal government for refusing to rent apartments to African Americans and Latinos and he was sued by former general manager of the Clippers, Elgin Baylor, for alleged wrongful termination and discrimination on the basis of race and age. The NBA Commisioner David Silver said the league planned to pursue a swift investigation. Let’s see how this plays out.
