Raquel and I have begun the process of working with a trainer. Our goal is to get in shape for the summer so we can rock a 2-piece. The truth is that I’m not in love with exercising…but I do LOVE the way that I feel after I work out. It’s difficult during the process, but I definitely experience a high after exercising. Our fitness trainer is Marcus Lucy, a man who goes beyond the norm to tap into helping his clients reach success. Check out our interview below and a few of his latest workout videos.
How long have you been a fitness trainer?
I have been training clients for 13 years. Being athletically inclined my entire life, while growing up in Detroit, I played on my high school and college football teams. After college I decided to help others achieve fitness success. I worked many years at several top exercise facilities in Chicago, and then decided to launch my own health and wellness company.
What inspired you to become a fitness trainer?
I was inspired to take this career path after the death of my cousin who was my mentor. He died of congestive heart failure at the tender age of 29.
What are the benefits of working out?
1. Improves confidence, energy, and endurance.
2. Improves sleep.
3. Reduces stress.
4. Slows the aging process.
5. Builds healthy muscles, bones, and joints.
6. Boosts the immune system.
7. Improves mental awareness.
What makes your fitness training unique or different from other trainers?
While most trainers focus on the physical and nutritional phases of training, I dive into the depths of my client’s existence by tackling their emotional and psychological needs, which dramatically influences their training. I would rather cure the cause, instead of just treating the effect.
You’re also a life coach, how has this impacted your fitness business?
I have always taken a holistic approach with my clients. Becoming a life coach has provided me more tools to help empower them to achieve not only their fitness goals, but also their life goals!
What advice or tips would you offer someone who hasn’t worked out in a while and wants to get in shape?
Hire a trainer.
Create structure and a plan.
Buy new workout gear so you can be excited about fitness.
Find activities that you enjoy.
Remember that consistency is key.
How can people work with you in the future?
I have training for all fitness levels and budgets. My services include small group training, 1-on-1 training, bootcamps, Empower Hour (small group life coaching), and 1-on-1 life coaching sessions.
