I love to eat. In the past I’ve spoken about my vegan journey (no meat or animal food products) and shared vegan-friendly restaurant spots in Chicago that I have tried. I have very few friends and family members that are vegan…so it helps to frequent spots that everybody can enjoy.
Whether you follow a vegan diet or want to support someone who does, the list below will help you if you are in need of more restaurant ideas in the Chicagoland area that offer vegan-friendly options on their menu.
Let’s just begin with they offer deep dish vegan pizza. This restaurant is a tiny 16-seat storefront café situated in the Lakeview neighborhood. It lists its menu on the chalkboard and always has fun desserts. The vibe is familiar, like you are dining at someone’s cozy place and the comfort food is delicious. They also offer BYOB with no corkage fee. Of all the spots on this list, this place is 100% vegan! If you follow them on social media, get ready to drool.

The South Loop location offers breakfast all day, and it has lunch and dinner options. The restaurant is pretty spacious and bright with large windows. Meli, which is the Greek term for honey, offers adult beverages and a juice and coffee bar. Although it’s listed as vegetarian, I’ve been told on multiple occasions that the Falafel wrap can be vegan if the cucumber sauce is removed. I’ve tried it and thoroughly enjoy it. But again, always warn your server of your dietary restrictions so they are clear…and check your food before you eat it, in case they forget.

Pick Me Up Café
I heart this Wrigleyville restaurant. They stay open late. The kitchen often closes at 1:30 AM. The location has a quirky vibe–they blast rap music on some nights, the menu is eclectic, they offer adult beverages, and the servers are super friendly. The décor is vintage meets That 70s Show. With a very little digital presence, it feels kind of like an underground spot for those who know the password. Just kidding…but I highly recommend calling before you arrive to double-check hours and such for this fun late night diner.

It may seem obvious that there would be vegan options since this place touts itself as “America’s Healthiest Grocery Store,” but it’s one you may not immediately think about. When you need to grab a quick bite to eat, with a plethora of options, some WF locations can have a lot to choose from. I love the fresh homemade pizza. If you ever need to bring a fun dish for an event where vegans will be attending, consider ordering a pizza with vegan toppings. Cheese and sausage with roasted garlic is my favorite pie.

Ja’ Grill Hyde Park
It is a beautiful colorful restaurant that offers Jamaican cuisine and has a full service bar. Prior to changing my diet I visited their old (now closed) Lincoln Park location and enjoyed the food. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that their new location offers vegan options, which are yum. While it’s only 3 options, it’s totally worth it when your dining companions want meat, adult beverages, and a festive environment.
